For the ultimate male bonding experience, you can't go past the fun, excitement and full-on buzz you get from a day spent paint balling with your mates. From a game which was originally thought up to recreate the adrenalin-pumping thrill of hunting buffalo in Africa (no, seriously!), paint ball has developed into an exhilarating, fast-paced sport, played by millions across the globe. One of the major attractions of paint ball, or 'skirmish', parties is that there are so many variations of the game to choose from. One of the most popular forms involves 2 teams, each trying to capture a flag. Another has 2 groups each trying to take each other's flags whilst protecting their own. A further variation is the kill or be killed game of elimination where the idea is to wipe out everyone else and be the last man standing. And the gaming possibilities go on. With so many options, it is easy to spend a whole day, or even your entire bucks weekend, working through the different permeations of the sport and never get bored.
Whether you were raised on a farm and have been handling firearms for years, or have never even seen a real gun before, paint ball has something to offer you. Full training and equipment will be provided at the centre where you'll be fitted out with protective overalls, goggles, paintballs and a gun, or 'marker'. Remember that being a dead shot is not the only skill required to be king of the field. Depending on the game you choose to play, you'll need a tactical mind, rational judgment, possibly leadership skills (or the ability to take orders from whoever you've identified as your leader) and nerves of steel. Remember those childhood games of hide and seek, or tag, you played with your cousins as a kid? Well this is the grown up version - complete with camouflage gear, a gun and your heart thumping hard in your chest as you realize you and your 10 best mates are about to take the other blokes' flag!
Most major Australian cities have indoor paint ball, or laser skirmish, venues.
